Firebird hoopsters earn postseason honors
(March 24)
A pair of Kirtland Community College basketball players earned individual postseason honors for their efforts during the recent 2009-10 season. Freshmen centers Teri Taylor (Clare) and Dmitry Martynenko (Moscow, Russia) garnered the attention of opponents in their first year in a Firebird uniform for the college's womens and mens basketball teams, respectively. Taylor was recently named to the Michigan Community College Athletic Association's all-freshman team, as well as being voted second-team, all-conference.

And then there were just 10. That's the number of suggested names still in the running in Kirtland Community College's "Name The New Firebird" contest, as college officials look to find a name for the college's new athletic logo/mascot.
Season ends for Firebirds with tourney loss, 84-75 (March 3)
The Kirtland Community College mens basketball team had its hopes of a long tournament run cut short with an 84-75 loss to conference rival St. Clair County Community College on Tuesday, March 2.
Firebirds shot down by visiting Mott, 80-42 (February 24)
The Kirtland Community College mens basketball team got a first-hand look at why the visiting Mott Community College Bears might make a run at their third national title in the last four years, as they trounced the host Firebirds, 80-42, on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at the McGregor Athletic Complex in Mio.
Lady Birds end season with 59-47 loss to Macomb (February 20)
The 2009-10 season came to a close for the Kirtland Community College womens basketball team with a 59-47 loss to the host Macomb Community College Monarchs on Saturday, Feb. 20.

The Kirtland Community College mens basketball couldn't put together back-to-back wins, falling to the host Macomb Community College Monarchs, 80-67, on Saturday, Feb. 20.
Firebirds earn tourney spot with win over Alpena (February 17)
The Kirtland Community College mens basketball team got the win it needed, as the Firebirds topped the visiting Alpena Community College Lumberjacks, 81-69, on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the McGregor Athletic Complex in Mio.
Kirtland cut down by Lumberjacks, 56-52 (February 17)
The Kirtland Community College womens basketball team played a good game and for a good cause on Wednesday, Feb. 17, but couldn't manage a win over the visiting Alpena Community College Lumberjacks in a clash of the two conference rivals at the McGregor Athletic Complex in Mio.
